Millenium Development Goals

The World Bank has been regularly
monitoring the progress of developing countries against absolute poverty.
Drawing on data and expertise from all regions
The World Bank
The United Nations has set itself goals designed to address some of the more serious issues that society faces.

The UN's Millenium Development Goals (MDG's)
  • 2.1 Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  • 2.2 Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
  • 2.3 Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
  • 2.4 Goal 4: Reduce child mortality rates
  • 2.5 Goal 5: Improve maternal health
  • 2.6 Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
  • 2.7 Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
  • 2.8 Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development
WHOA that's some set of goals! and by 2015? Can you really achieve such goals using austerity, force and coercion as the tools of choice? No doubt good ole statistics will come to their rescue. The economics of capitalism are only going to exacerbate the problems and writing debt off does not address the underlying issues. Neither does pouring in good money, if there is such a thing, after bad. Although that opinion flies in the face of professionally gathered statistics as reported by the World Bank. Fingers crossed eh. How dare anyone disagree with those who have been monitoring the situation and are eminently more qualified to make a judgement on progress. Dividing the GDP of a country into it's population does not sound logic make when gauging the effectiveness of policy.

So let's cut to the chase. Why will the UN not achieve the MDG's. Budget! However this does not mean that the goals are unachievable. Yes I realise that contradicts the professionals opinions, but taking Einstein's theory of Insanity into account, in regards to budget constraint, capitalism would not seem to yield an accurate measure of the effectiveness of the UN's solutions.

NOW can achieve every single one of the MDG's without the need to massage the figures and within a VERY short space of time too. I sincerely wish the UN luck, but I have very little hope that their statistics will translate into the eradication poverty and hunger etc... and with their lack of use of Technological solutions, they're making their job even harder!
