NOW... much smarter than NWO (Last Update: 24th February 2015)

"The definition of insanity
is doing the same thing over and over again
and expecting different results."
Albert Einstein

"The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force of our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity." - Captain Pickard.

Why is this not true today? Depending on what you believe, that may well include the space toys. What I mean is, what does Star Trek have that we don't that enables a society to not only function, but to thrive and ever go boldly where no man has gone before lol? Sure Star Trek is science fiction, but everything is until some mad scientist brings something fictional into being. For a moment, accept Star Trek as a reality that is 150 years into our future. Yes we're playing let's pretend, but everything is pretend until some made scientist blah blah blah.

What do they have that we need? How did their evolution start? Was it the old brink of disaster we left it a bit later than we should have before realising that something had to change? Was it simply a managed process, evolving from something like a Resource Based Economy? NOW, I'd like to believe that the latter, obviously, but that doesn't mean that somewhere along the lines we didn't end up near a hole before implementing a process that allowed us to evolve into a Resource Based Economy in the first place. Obviously it's viewers choice as to how the Star Trek civilisation evolved into being.

Are you happy to settle for that sort of evolution? Are you prepared to endure death and destruction and then watch as society rises like the phoenix from the flames? Perhaps you would prefer to skip straight to the managed process bit for the next 25 years (or quicker), before becoming Star Trek oriented society i.e. we work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity, aaaaand bringing about the space toys 50 years early? It is possible, well, I'm not so sure about the space toys, but never say never as we produce some quite outstanding space type folk. Some of what man has accomplished is stunning. Some, well, it's stunning in its way, but used for the wrong purposes or produced to fail and be thrown away and replaced with something else that's produced to fail and be thrown away rinse and repeat.

Can you see our world leaders coming together to unite us in a way that puts us onto the Star Trek path? For some unknown reason I have my doubts that such a meeting is going to take place where our politicians and our officials and our industries and our financial systems etc... are concerned. Ok that's not strictly true. Some meeting will take place, and we'll see the results second hand. Am I being a bit hard on our politicians/officials/industries/financial systems etc...? I believe that it's an honest look at how our society currently functions. Are our politicians/officials/industries/financial systems etc...? screwed by the very same system that they represent? No doubt if they are they can make it comfortable for themselves should they wish, and I'm not saying that they're all crooks, but there are some who seem to get off the hook rather too easy for some of their indiscretions, that's politicians/officials/industries/financial systems etc...

It only takes a few bad guys to ruin it for the rest of the global population and unfortunately labels can be thrown at professions. I'm as guilty as the next person in regards to bagging politicians/officials/industries/financial systems etc... and throwing labels around willy nilly, so whilst I may be a bit hard on them, I can't help but look around and wonder what the hell those in a positions of power are doing, because whatever method we're using to work to better ourselves, it doesn't look to be working... and to top it off, wealth is the driving force in our lives. We are the anti-Star Trek civilisation. Not quite as bad as the Klingons though.

So, after what will probably look like a shitload of negativity, the above, why do I believe that we can hit the goal mentioned above? Ya know, the Resource Based Economy within 25 years and zipping through space firing pew pew lazers 75 years after that. Star Trek eh, the ultimate responsibility... go to the academy if you want, become a farmer if you want, weave baskets under water if you want etc... but humans being what we are, will we ever stop get pissed in bars and slugging it out with an alien, or the guy from next door, that's hitting on your girlfriend/wife/husband/boyfriend? Possibly not, in fact, I kind of hope not in many ways.

There was an article recently thrown into the media circus that reported Stephen Hawking as saying: "The quality I would most like to magnify is empathy. It brings us together in a peaceful, loving state". Can't fault that at all, however I'd settle for a greater deal of tolerance as I believe that that is all that is required to move society forwards. Empathy is a beautiful thing and it is something we will eventually grasp, but I think if we wait for empathy to come to the fore, then we'll be waiting a long time and may well find that brink of disaster thing arriving before then. It's just my view. I'm not trying to be negative, it's just the way I see things panning out and I don't think it an irrationally negative position to hold given our history, current circumstances and leadership for the future.

My reality is what it is. I look to see what might be in our future and realise that the worst case scenario is that we annihilate ourselves. The best case scenario is that we go warp speed and become the Star Trek civilisation. I believe that the best case scenario is our future. I believe that the vast majority of people are already bona fide members of the star Trek civilisation and will do whatever it takes to live their lives happily and for the benefit of humanity. However, until people are offered the Star Trek civilisation society as an alternative to the current lunacy, then we're going to lurch towards that pit of despair and doom (sarcastic use). Perhaps you see it panning out in a different way?

It doesn't take much to become that Star Trek civilisation and it will be up to all of us to choose to turn our back on the acquisition of wealth in pursuit of bettering ourselves and the rest of humanity. That doesn't mean that we'd go without "stuff", but it would mean that we were serious about our future and the future for generations to come. The quicker we come up to speed with the alternatives available, the quicker we'll find out if we can become Star Trek quicker than Star Trek became Star Trek.

Live long and prosper.

A "Begging" Letter.

Everything takes money. Raising awareness is no different. To that end, if you have excess funds and you would like to invest in a project with the potential to change the world, then come and say hi.

The above may sound like madness or the ramblings of a person suffering from delusions of grandeur, but I assure you that I am quite serious. Someone has to be about the future. I have a plan. It may not be a good plan, but that is for you to decide. Come to my house, drink wine and let me offer you a vision and a plan of how we get there. You will be an integral part of NOW helping to shape our future. If nothing else, you will have had a wasted journey and I will have less wine.

Change happening by itself is too slow. It needs a helping hand.

We do not need to be stuck with Einstein's theory of insanity! There is a Silver Bullet! and it is EASY to change our society quickly and with next to no consequences, in fact the positives by far outweigh the negatives!

A wee challenge for you. Can you think of a single reason why our financial system is better than a NOW approach for humanity. Be honest and open minded, but I think you'll find out that there isn't. NOW (or variations of) is/are required NOW more than ever. We live in a finite world, why continue to waste it?

"There is no Silver Bullet". I've heard that from professionals, experts, leaders etc... NOW they're either really really wrong or they're lying through their teeth. Again, take a look around you and ask if this is the best we can do?

I disagree with those professionals, experts and leaders who say that there is no silver Bullet and I'll make 3 very bold statements that would have them laughing in the aisles:
  • There is a Silver Bullet!
  • It is EASY to solve many of the major issues that the world faces!
  • NOW offers positives that our current societal and economic models can't even come close to offering!

With the above 3 very bold statements in mind, I give you NOW
